If the central government does not withdraw its decision, a storm is coming in Punjab.
BJP’s Attack on Punjab’s Heritage, AAP MP Says - This Notification Cannot Dissolve the University Senate, “Punjab Will Not Be Suppressed”
Chandigarh, November 7, 2025: The BJP government at the Center tried to crush Punjab by suddenly issuing a notification to dissolve Punjab University’s Senate, but Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Aam Aadmi Party hit back so hard that it shook Delhi’s seats of power. Thousands of ASAP students took to the streets in Chandigarh and across Punjab, openly challenging the BJP - “Punjab will not be suppressed!” Now this is not just a university matter, it has become a battle for Punjab’s honor and pride.
The scene on Chandigarh’s streets on Tuesday was proof of Punjab’s strength. ASAP students and AAP workers staged such a powerful protest against the BJP government that the message reached the central government that Punjab stands united. The slogans echoed - “The looting of Punjab’s rights will not be tolerated!” Thousands of youth standing together were shouting that Punjab University is our heritage, and no outside force will take control of it. Protesters held placards that read - “Not by force, Punjab’s institutions are not yours!” This was not just a protest, it was Punjab’s self-respect speaking.
The central government issued an order to dissolve Punjab University’s Senate without any prior notice. AAP alleges this is not an administrative decision but a well-planned conspiracy through which the BJP wants to establish its control over Punjab’s most prestigious educational institution. Punjab University, which has been Punjab’s educational and cultural identity since 1882, was suddenly targeted. AAP leaders said this is the same method BJP uses in every state where it doesn’t have a government - first weaken the institutions, then install your own people. But this time Punjab has the Bhagwant Mann government that is ready to fight for every inch of land.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann directly warned the BJP that the language of force will not work with Punjab. He said - “Punjab University is not just a building, it is Punjab’s soul. Revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh came from here, Punjab got its leadership from here. It is our duty to maintain this institution and our dharma to protect it.” CM Mann made it clear that the Punjab government will not compromise on this matter and whatever steps need to be taken will be taken. His message was - “BJP has targeted the wrong state. Punjab is that land which does not bow, does not get suppressed, and fights till its last breath for its rights.”
ASAP students staged sit-ins at every college connected to Punjab University. Patiala, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Bathinda - youth came out on the streets in every city. Protest meetings were held on campuses. Students said that if we quietly let Punjab University go today, then tomorrow our other institutions will also be taken over. A student leader said - “We are the new generation of Punjab and we know how to claim our rights. BJP must be thinking what can students do, but we will show that when youth awaken, governments change.”
The Aam Aadmi Party has made this issue not just political but a people’s movement. Senior party leaders boosted students’ morale by joining the protests and gave a clear message that the Punjab government stands with its people. The head of AAP’s Chandigarh unit said - “This is not just AAP’s fight, this is the fight of all of Punjab. We will not let our university become a victim of anyone’s plunder. BJP thinks that having a government at the Center means they can do anything, but in Punjab, the people and the people’s government are one.” The party also ran a strong campaign on social media and made #SavePunjabUniversity trend.
AAP’s student wing ASAP proved that Punjab’s youth is no longer going to sit quietly. The organization’s workers protested with complete strategy - disciplined, peaceful but powerful. ASAP’s state president said - “We are the generation that doesn’t ask for its rights, it snatches them. BJP must have thought youth only make noise on social media, but we showed that when it comes to Punjab, we also come out on the streets.” ASAP announced that if the decision to dissolve the Senate is not withdrawn within three days, there will be a chakka jam (road blockade) across Punjab. This unity and fighting spirit of students has given new energy to AAP as well.
The history of Punjab University is the history of Punjab’s struggle. Revolutionaries like Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev came from here, Punjab got intellectuals and leaders from here. This institution is Punjab’s identity and attempts to capture it are an attack on Punjab’s soul. A senior AAP leader said - “BJP should understand that Punjab is that land where fighting for rights is in the blood. People here know how to raise their voice against injustice. Trying to touch Punjab University means challenging all of Punjab.” That’s why this issue is no longer just educational, it has become a question of Punjab’s autonomy and respect.
The Aam Aadmi Party has given a final warning to BJP that attempts to forcibly capture Punjab’s institutions will fail. A party spokesperson said - “We are not a weak government that will bend under pressure. The people of Punjab chose us because we have the courage to fight for their rights. BJP thinks that having power at the Center means they can do anything, but Punjab has democracy and here the voice of the people is supreme.” AAP also made it clear that if the matter is not resolved, this movement will intensify. The party said this battle will be fought with every student, teacher, and citizen of Punjab. The message was clear - “Punjab cannot be suppressed, and never will be!”
If the central government does not withdraw its decision, a storm is coming in Punjab. AAP has indicated that the next phase will see even bigger protests and a public awareness campaign across Punjab. Punjab’s intellectuals, writers, and artists are also uniting on this issue. The Punjabi diaspora is also raising its voice on social media. This is no longer just a political fight, it has become a battle for Punjab’s identity. And when Punjab fights for its rights, history is witness that it wins. BJP will have to understand - Punjab cannot be suppressed!
