Despite a Tough Fight, Chinese Champions Emerge Victorious in a Thrilling Final

HANGZHOU: In an exciting competition at the Asian Games, Indian shooters Sarbjot Singh and Divya TS demonstrated their prowess, clinching the silver medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. The dynamic duo, celebrating their birthdays, showcased remarkable skills but ultimately yielded to the Chinese pair in a closely contested final.

India's shooting contingent has been putting up an impressive performance at the Games, amassing a total of 19 medals, including six gold, eight silver, and five bronze medals. The Indian pair faced off against the formidable Chinese world champions Zhang Bowen and Jiang Renxin in the final, securing a hard-fought silver with a final score of 16.14.

Sarbjot Singh, a key contender in the men's 10m air pistol team event, narrowly missed securing a gold for India, showcasing remarkable talent alongside teammates Arjun Singh Cheema and Shiva Narwal. However, a few challenging shots from Divya in the closing stages tipped the scales in favor of the Chinese team, leading to India securing the silver.

Reflecting on the intense competition, Sarbjot Singh shared, "I felt a bit nervous towards the end, given the high pressure of the moment. I focused on belly breathing techniques before and after the match to manage my nerves." Divya also expressed contentment with her performance and the overall experience, stating, "We gave our best, and I enjoyed every shot, from the first to the last."

Looking ahead to the Paris Olympics next year, Divya expressed her determination to qualify, acknowledging the support and guidance provided by their exceptional coaches. During the qualification rounds, Sarbjot scored 291 while Divya achieved a score of 286. Their combined score of 577 edged them ahead of China in the qualification stage; however, the Chinese duo emerged victorious in the thrilling final, showcasing the high level of competition in the event.
