In the Asia Cup, Five participating teams aim to fine-tune their strategies ahead of the World Cup

COLOMBO: The Much-Anticipated Asia Cup commences in Multan on Wednesday, promising an enthralling spectacle as India and Pakistan are likely to lock horns in three high-voltage encounters. Amidst the fervor of this cricketing rivalry, five participating teams aim to fine-tune their strategies ahead of the impending World Cup.

With the global tournament commencing on October 5, the Asia Cup presents the final opportunity for the five participating teams, excluding Nepal, to address questions and test strategies involving their players. While practice matches and face-offs are planned before the grand event, the Asia Cup, hosted jointly by Sri Lanka and Pakistan, provides an authentic simulation of a multinational tournament, offering a taste of the upcoming World Cup's atmosphere.

As Seven-Time champions, Team India enters the Asia Cup with a storied legacy, but their pursuit is aimed beyond clinching an eighth title. Head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma are strategically focusing on World Cup victory. The competition will serve as a stage to assess batting prowess, with emphasis on players' performances at critical positions.

KL Rahul, a vital inclusion in the squad, has overcome obstacles following a surgery, displaying promising improvements in his batting. However, concerns linger over his wicket-keeping readiness, following a minor injury during a practice session. Observers will scrutinize Rahul's performance during the Asia Cup, as his multifaceted skills bolster India's middle-order strength.

Notably, The clash between India and Pakistan is set for September 2 in Palekele, where the spotlight will be on Shreyas Iyer's performance. Shreyas has diligently honed his skills in the nets and at the National Cricket Academy, undergoing "match simulation" to prepare for the challenges ahead. The match against Pakistan offers an opportunity for the right-hander to exhibit his form in a genuine match setting.
