Dhawan was a vital cog in India's top order, particularly in the limited-overs format.

Shikhar Dhawan Retirement News: Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan on Saturday officially announced his retirement from international cricket, marking the end of an era for one of the most charismatic and successful opening batsmen in the game. Known for his aggressive style, elegant stroke play, and trademark 'thaapi' celebration, Dhawan leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered for years to come.

A Stellar Career

Shikhar Dhawan, fondly known as "Gabbar", made his international debut for India in 2010 in an ODI against Australia. However, it was in 2013 that he truly announced himself on the world stage during his Test debut against Australia, smashing the fastest century on debut, scoring 187 off just 174 balls. From that point on, there was no looking back for the Delhi-born cricketer.

Dhawan became a vital cog in India's top order, particularly in the limited-overs format. With his fearless attitude, impeccable timing, and ability to dominate bowling attacks, he quickly rose to prominence. Dhawan formed one of the most successful opening partnerships in cricket alongside Rohit Sharma, and together they provided India with numerous match-winning starts.

Across his career, Dhawan amassed over 6,793 runs in ODIs at an average of 44.11, including 17 centuries and 39 half-centuries. In T20Is, he scored 1,759 runs, while in Test cricket, he accumulated 2,315 runs in 34 matches. He was particularly known for his performances in ICC tournaments, where he often saved his best for the biggest stages, including being the top run-scorer in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy and playing pivotal roles in World Cups.

Shikhar Dhawan's Retirement Announcement:

In a heartfelt video message, Dhawan announced his retirement, expressing gratitude for the love and support he received throughout his journey. In his message, Dhawan stated: "After a decade of representing my country at the highest level, it’s time to bid farewell to international cricket. It has been an incredible journey, full of highs and lows, but the love and respect I have received have made every moment worthwhile."
