Virat Kohli and KL Rahul delivered an extraordinary batting performance, setting a new record for the highest partnership in the history of the Asia Cup. The duo combined forces to amass an unbeaten partnership of 233 runs from 194 balls for the third wicket. This incredible partnership eclipsed the previous record held by Pakistan's Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed, who had shared an opening partnership of 224 runs against India in 2012. Team India star bowler Kuldeep Yadav registered a five-wicket haul in the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match in Colombo on Monday.

In a high-octane encounter at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, India delivered an emphatic performance to secure a historic 228-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in the Super-4 match of the One Day Asia Cup. This win stands as India's most significant triumph against Pakistan in Asia Cup history, surpassing their previous record set in 1984.

Opting to bat first after losing the toss, Team India demonstrated formidable batting prowess, amassing a total of 356 runs for the loss of just two wickets in their allotted 50 overs. The innings was marked by impressive half-centuries from captain Rohit Sharma (56) and young sensation Shubman Gill (58), who forged a solid partnership of 121 runs.

However, the highlight of the match was Virat Kohli's stellar century, which he achieved in just 84 balls. This century marked his 47th in ODI cricket, a record-breaking feat that saw him surpass the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who had taken 435 innings to reach the same milestone. Kohli's extraordinary achievement solidified his status as one of the game's greatest batsmen.

In addition to his century, Kohli was also part of a historic partnership with KL Rahul. The two batsmen combined forces to produce an unbeaten partnership of 233 runs off 194 balls for the third wicket. This partnership not only shattered records but also propelled India to their imposing total.

On the other side of the contest, Pakistan faced a daunting target of 357 runs to win. However, they struggled to cope with India's bowling attack and could only manage to score 128 runs in 32 overs. Notably, Pakistan was without the services of key players Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf due to injury.

This resounding 228-run defeat marked Pakistan's largest-ever loss in the history of the Asia Cup, surpassing their previous record when they were defeated by Sri Lanka by 64 runs in 2008. India's previous biggest win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup had occurred in 1984 when they clinched victory by a margin of 54 runs at Sharjah.
