Record-Breaking Triumph: India's Compound Archers Impress with Unprecedented Medal Haul in Hangzhou

India's archery contingent displayed exceptional prowess at the Asian Games 2023, securing an impressive record of nine medals. The veteran compound archers, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Deotale, stood out by achieving a remarkable feat of bagging hat-trick gold medals. Aditi Swami, another stalwart, also made her mark by clinching a bronze medal, contributing to India's astounding medal count.

The seasoned archer, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, exhibited extraordinary skills, clinching a third gold medal by overpowering So Chawon of South Korea with a score of 149.145. Jyothi had earlier triumphed in the mixed doubles and women's team categories, solidifying her remarkable achievements in the Asian Games.

Ojas Deotale, the 21-year-old world champion, showcased prowess in a showdown with his mentor, 34-year-old Abhishek Verma. Emerging victorious with a score of 149.147, Deotale secured gold in the men's team and mixed doubles events, adding to India's impressive medal tally.

Reigning world champion Aditi Swami, who had already secured a World Championship title in Berlin, continued her winning streak by grabbing a bronze medal. In a one-sided playoff against Indonesia's Ratih Jilijati F, Aditi's exceptional performance saw her triumph with a score of 146.140.

This remarkable success at the Asian Games 2023 marks a historic milestone for Indian archery. With a total of nine medals, the Indian archers have surpassed their previous achievements, showcasing their dedication and skill on the international stage. In the 2014 Asian Games held in Incheon, India had managed to secure three medals, demonstrating a significant improvement and growth in the sport.
