US Open 2025: Aryna Sabalenka Wins US Open, Equals Serena Williams Latest News: World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka has won the Women's Singles title of the US Open 2025. She won the title for the second consecutive time by defeating Amanda Anisimova of America in the final in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). With this win, Sabalenka has equaled legendary player Serena Williams, who also won the US Open twice in a row. This is Sabalenka's fourth Grand Slam title and she has become the first woman to defend the US Open title since 2014.

She also became the first woman to successfully retain the US Open title since Serena Williams in 2014. After finishing runner-up at both Wimbledon and French Open earlier this year, Sabalenka finally made up for her mistakes at Flushing Meadows. The Belarusian also avenged her Wimbledon semifinal loss to Anisimova with a stunning win in New York.

For the 24-year-old Anisimova, it was another tough loss in a Grand Slam final, having previously suffered a defeat at Wimbledon, where Iga Swiatek handed her a double bagel in the championship match. But despite the loss, she moved up to fourth in the WTA rankings.

Sabalenka fights back

Sabalenka held her own with an early break point, but Anisimova hit back with fearless intent. A thunderous forehand winner on her fourth chance overcame a 0-2 deficit, and with the crowd cheering, the American kept up the pressure to earn a second break point and take the lead. But the top seed, known for her tenacity, was not about to give up. Sabalenka fought back once again and didn't allow Anisimova to find her rhythm. With her third break of the set, she tipped the balance in her favour and, with a composed hold, won the first set in 38 minutes.

Anisimova's struggle in vain

Anisimova started the second set confidently and held her serve, signalling her intention to bounce back after losing the first set. But Aryna Sabalenka, who is slowly becoming the world No. 1, made a crucial break and came agonisingly close to victory. While Anisimova had to struggle for the final 20 minutes, the odds were in Sabalenka's favour, as she has a 27-2 record in US Open matches where she won the first set.

Still, the American did not give up. After trailing 1-3, Anisimova got her third break of the match and levelled the set, adding drama to a contest that seemed to be tilting in Sabalenka's favour. Just when it looked like Anisimova was gaining momentum, Sabalenka made a brilliant comeback and regained the lead and fell just two games away from defending her title.

The match remained thrilling. Sabalenka was serving for the championship, but Anisimova broke back to tie at 5-5, continuing the highs and lows at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The second set eventually went to a tie-break—a spectacular finish. Once Sabalenka took a 6-1 lead in the tie-break, there was no stopping her. She crossed the finish line and jumped for joy as she sealed the win.
