GNDU Alumnus Jaspreet Singh Becomes First Punjabi Immigrant on New Jersey Transition Council
US-based attorney Jaspreet Singh, an alumnus of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, has been appointed to a high-profile body as the only Sikh and the first Punjabi immigrant in the incoming administration’s core advisory structure. The New Jersey Transition Advisory Council has been constituted by New Jersey Governor-Elect Mikie Sherrill to steer governance, policy, and administrative priorities.
GNDU officials celebrated this milestone. According to Vice-Chancellor Prof Karamjeet Singh, the selection of a GNDU graduate for such a key position abroad highlights the global impact and excellence of the university’s alumni.
Singh studied law at GNDU. He brings to the council his extensive expertise in immigration law and longstanding involvement with the New Jersey immigrant community. Earlier this year, he donated INR 3 crore to GNDU to establish the “Guru Nanak Chair”, a move towards fostering academic research rooted in Sikh values and promoting global engagement.
For Punjab and GNDU, this appointment is more than just personal success: it symbolises the growing reach of Indian-educated professionals in global governance and community leadership. For many young Punjabis and aspiring students, Jaspreet Singh’s journey from Amritsar to a major US state’s advisory council sends a powerful message of ambition, education, pride and inspiration and the high regard Indian institutions can achieve worldwide.
