Many bodies have been Recovered: Media Reports

KHARTOUM: At least 10 workers died after a gold mine collapsed in northern Sudan, media reported. The Jebel al-Ahmar gold mine near the border with Egypt collapsed on Thursday, killing workers working there, according to the Sudanese news agency.

According to reports, many workers are still missing. Most of those who lost their lives are young people. Many bodies have been recovered. The search for survivors in the wreckage is ongoing. A news agency quoted a security source as saying that the workers are feared to be trapped in the underground water of the mine.

Notably, Such incidents are frequent in Sudan. In 2021, a gold mine collapsed in West Kodrefan killed 31 people. Sudan is a major producer of gold. There are gold mines in many places across the country.
