Measures also include investing in digital health to improve health outcomes
CANBERRA: Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia has announced to help carry out a 'massive reform' of the country's health system. Following a meeting with state and territory leaders on Friday, Albanese unveiled a AUD 2.2 billion (US$1.4 billion) package to reform Medicare, the country's universal health care scheme, according to a report.
Measures also include investing in digital health to improve health outcomes. Albanese said that health will be a priority for his government in 2023. He said that this package of measures will address immediate challenges in primary care, relieve pressure on the hospital system, and lay the foundation for long-term Medicare reform.
A report published on Friday by the Australian Medical Association (AMA), the top doctors' body, found the performance of Australia's public hospitals is at its 'lowest level in a decade'. AMA President Steve Robson said it is encouraging that governments across the country are making health a priority.
