It is pertinent to mention that the COVID-19 variant, known as JN.1, has been listed as a separate "variant of interest" by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Previously, the omicron sub-variant was classified under its parent strain, BA.2.86. It raised concern among scientists, earlier this year, due to its mutations.
As of now, there has been no evidence stating JN1 COVID-19 variant causes any severe disease. Likewise, there has been no study on whether the existing tests, vaccines, and treatments would work against this, experts believe.
As per ABC News, Dr. Mandy Cohen, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said that the COVID-19 virus continues to change and it changed again in the last few weeks.
He further said, "The good news is that, "one, we can still pick it up with our tests. Two, our treatments are still effective against that change. And importantly, the updated COVID vaccine that you can get right now is still good coverage for those changes – we've seen that in the lab."
