Australian Foreign Minister, Penny Wong, emphasizes the need for thorough investigation into Hardeep Singh Nijjar murder case

Australia has weighed in on the serious allegations leveled by Canada against India in the Garmkhiali Hardeep Singh murder case, expressing concern over the matter. Foreign Minister Penny Wang stated that while the issue is under investigation, the reports surrounding it are worrisome. Australia is closely monitoring the situation in collaboration with its partners, and discussions have been held with Indian authorities regarding the allegations.

In the ongoing investigation into the murder of 'Garmkhiali' Hardeep Singh, Canada has alleged India's involvement, a claim that India has strongly refuted. The accusations have escalated tensions between the two nations, resulting in diplomatic actions. Canada has terminated the services of a senior officer from India's Intelligence Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), prompting India to reciprocate by requesting the departure of a senior Canadian diplomat within five days.

During a press conference held in New York, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wang responded to inquiries regarding Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations against India in the murder case. Minister Wang affirmed that Australia has discussed the issue with India and is closely monitoring the situation in conjunction with its partners. While confirming their shared concerns, Minister Wang refrained from providing detailed information.

Garmkhayali Nijjar was tragically shot and killed by unknown assailants outside a Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia province of Western Canada on June 18. There was a reward of 10 lakh rupees on Nijjar. India promptly dismissed Trudeau's allegations as "absurd" and "motivated by vested interests." The evolving situation has highlighted the need for diplomatic engagement to address and resolve the growing tensions between the concerned nations.
