US Florida Floods latest news: A series of intense storms drowned much of South Florida this week, with Thursday's forecast predicting continued heavy rainfall through Friday. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for Broward, Collier, Lee, Miami-Dade, and Sarasota Counties.

Significant rainfall has already soaked southern Florida, with recent reports indicating up to 20 inches fell in parts of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. These amounts approached record levels for the state, with over 2 feet of rain recorded in the Everglades over the past three days. Along the Gulf Coast, several counties reported rainfall of 6 to 7 inches, and some areas received as much as 10 to 11 inches.

Concerns among scientists persist that the southern part of Florida could face significant inundation by the end of this century, as reported by The Guardian. "The tide is coming in, and eventually it's not going to go back out," said Wanless. "It's currently a picturesque place to live, but it remains highly vulnerable."
