Canada Brampton Protest Over Attack on Hindu Temple Latest News Today: A Peel Regional Police officer, Sergeant Harinder Sohi, has been suspended following his involvement in a protest at the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton, as reported by CBC News. Sohi, an 18-year veteran of the force, was identified in videos circulating on social media. Following his suspension, Sohi received death threats online, prompting the Peel Regional Police Association to provide him with "assistance and protection." Despite the suspension, Sohi currently faces no allegations of wrongdoing.

Peel Police spokesperson Richard Chin confirmed that the department is investigating the circumstances shown in the video. "We are aware of a video circulating on social media which shows an off-duty Peel police officer involved in a demonstration. This officer has since been suspended in accordance with the Community Safety and Policing Act. We are investigating the circumstances in totality depicted in the video and are unable to provide further information until such time that this investigation is complete," Chin stated.

In the wake of the incident, Peel Regional Police emphasized their commitment to maintaining peaceful and lawful demonstrations. "Officers will be deployed to ensure peace and lawfulness at planned demonstrations. Violence and other criminal acts have no place in our community," the department shared in a post on X.

In related developments, Peel Regional Police arrested four individuals in connection with protests in Brampton and Mississauga. The arrested include 43-year-old Dilpreet Singh Bouns, 23-year-old Vikas, and 31-year-old Amritpal Singh. The protests involved trespassing complaints and demonstrations at various places of worship, leading to altercations between protesters and worshippers. A fourth individual was arrested on an unrelated warrant and subsequently released.
