Punjab Unveils Easy Registry System: Property Registration Now Faster, Simpler and Corruption-Free

The Punjab government has launched a landmark initiative, the Easy Registry System, to simplify the property registration process across the state. It aims to bring ease, simplicity, speed, and transparency. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann made this announcement. It is a major attempt to eliminate the system’s long-standing issues of delays, red tape and corruption.

Under the new scheme, property owners don’t have to visit the sub-registrar office associated with the property's location. Now, they can choose any sub-registrar office within the same district. Officials highlighted this move towards giving flexibility and saving them travel time and inconvenience.

Another key feature of this new system is that citizens can now draft their sale deeds online or via Sewa Kendras by paying a nominal fee of INR 500. After submission, the processing time of the paperwork is 48 hours. Officials don’t have the power to raise arbitrary objections. If there is any legitimate objection, it must be raised within that 48-hour window, and it will be reviewed by the concerned Deputy Commissioner.

The system provides real-time WhatsApp updates at every stage from submission to final confirmation. It is to keep the applicants informed. Citizens will receive a message upon completion of registration, and documents can be collected in a single visit. To strengthen accountability, there is a facility to report the incident through WhatsApp in case anyone faces demands for bribes.

According to the officials, with this step Punjab has become the first state in India to roll out an integrated, district-wide registry system, setting a benchmark for other states.

Under the “Sarkar Tuhade Dwaar” scheme, selected sub-registrar offices (for example, Mohali) have already been upgraded, with help desks and improved waiting areas, and the digital and online infrastructure is being improved across the state.

For citizens — buyers, sellers, investors or NRIs with property in Punjab — this could be a landmark moment. No more excuses for undue delays or scrambling across offices, fewer middlemen, and a registration process that promises simplicity, speed and fairness. If it is implemented properly, “Easy Registry” could greatly improve trust in the system and make property transactions and ownership significantly more citizen-friendly.
