Entry of luxury buses including ‘Orbit’ banned in Chandigarh

Taking a strong action against the private bus companies flouting rules, the Transport Department has cancelled the bus permits of 69 AC luxury buses including ‘Orbit’ and also banned their entry in Chandigarh.

Interestingly, the majority of bus permits belongs to the transport companies owned by Badals. The department cancelled 37 permits of Orbit Aviation and Babwali Transport Company. In Bhatinda, the Regional Transport Authority cancelled 16 bus permits and the 14 bus permits out of 16 belongs to Orbit Aviation and Dabwali Transport.

According to the sources, though the Regional Transport Authorities of Patiala, Ferozepur, Bhatinda and Jalandhar have cancelled the bus permits of private transport companies but the buses belongs to these companies flouting the rules and still coming to Chandigarh.

As per the information, the buses owned by private companies are getting special treatment in Bhatinda area and the buses have been given maximum time for halt at Bus stands. The leaders of various Punjab Roadways Unions held a meeting with the Transport Department officials to cancel the permits of the private bus companies flouting rules and regulations.

The cancelled bus permits were allotted in the regime of SAD-BJP government and the private bus companies didn’t bother about the do’s and don’ts. These companies violated the provisions of the permits.

Regional Transport Authority, Patiala cancelled eight bus permits and out of eight, four belongs to Jujhar Company. In Jalandhar, the authorities cancelled 28 bus permits and out 28, 13 belongs to the Dabwali Transport.

Ferozepur RTA has cancelled 15 bus permits and out of 15, six belongs to Jujhar bus company. Though the majority of the cancelled bus permits belongs to the Badal family but the rest of the cancelled permits belongs to the Congress leaders too.

President of INTUC, Mangat Khan, General Secretary Avtar Singh, Chandigarh Depot President Sukhminder Singh, General Secretary Anupam Kaushal and Surinder Singh, President of Punjab Roadways Conductor Union President welcomed the move of banning private luxurious buses including Orbit in Chandigarh. The members said that the orders of the Transport department should be properly implemented in the state so that the state transport could earn maximum profits.
