The Executive Producer of 'Black Prince' movie Jasjeet Singh in his statement stated that Damanjeet Singh Sandhawalia is not the legal descendent of Maharaja Duleep Singh. Damanjeet Singh Sandhawalia had claimed that he is the legal descendent of Maharaja Duleep Singh, son of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Even Sandhawalia had raised objections on the film to represent wrong facts related to the life of Maharaja Duleep Singh.
Jasjeet said, "The Direct lineage of Maharajah Duleep Singh ended with the death of Bamba Sutherland on March 10, 1957. The plaintiff claimed that their forefathers were adopted sons of Maharajah Duleep Singh and we should consider them his descendants."
He further said, "We asked to give any evidence that showed Maharajah Duleep Singh had adopted them as sons. They could not come up with any document. We refused to amend the credit and they accused us of distorting history."
Sandhawalia had approached the Delhi High court in this regard but Jasjeet said he had already lost the case in Mohali court. In February 2014, the judicial magistrate Pamelpreet Grewal dismissed a petition filed by Beant Singh Sandhawalia, seeking directions to declare him descendant of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Beant Singh, a resident of Amritsar, had died during the pendency of the suit; the case is now being pursued by his sons.
Jasjeet raised questions at Sandhawalia family for hiding the facts of Mohali court case in Delhi High Court.
He said, "First of all, they have no right to represent Maharajah Duleep Singh as his dependents and we feel this case is baseless and it does not have even a valid jurisdiction. We will not be able to amend our credits in future and we stand by with our research work."
