Punjab Liquor Racket Busted: Cheap Liquor Sold in Expensive Bottles in Chandigarh Latest News : Punjab Excise Department, Ludhiana East Range, taking action on specific inputs in a major action against the illegal liquor trade, raided two different places, busting a racket of counterfeit liquor in expensive bottles in the first raid, while a large consignment of liquor destined for Chandigarh was seized in the other case.
This action was taken under the instructions of Excise Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal and under the direct supervision of DCX Patiala Tarsem Chand, ACX Ludhiana East Dr. Shivani Gupta, and Excise officers.
In the first raid, two individuals were arrested in Ludhiana, allegedly for deceiving consumers and playing with their health by selling cheap liquor in expensive imported liquor bottles and causing loss to the government exchequer.106 empty bottles, 39 of premium brands like Glenlivet, Black Dog, Chivas Regal, Johnnie Walker Gold Label, Hendricks Gin, and other expensive bottles were recovered in the raid.
Additionally, the material used for bottling and a Swift Dzire car were also seized.
An FIR has been registered against both the accused – Amit Vij and Pankaj Saini – at Police Station Division No. ,3 Ludhiana after their arrest.
In the second case, the excise team raided the village Burma (Samrala police station) and arrested a person named Vikramjit Singh. The team recovered 60 bottles of illegal liquor from his possession. These included 24 bottles of PML brand orange and 36 bottles of PML brand Dilbar Saunfiya, which were labelled “For Sale in Chandigarh only.”
The department has said that strict action against illegal liquor smuggling, fake refilling rackets and bootlegging will continue in the future as well.

The department has also appealed to the people that if they come across any information about any illegal liquor-related activity, they should immediately inform the excise or police officials so that this menace can be completely eradicated.
