Punjab Govt Committed to Employee Welfare: FM Cheema Engages 47 Unions, Issues Time-Bound Directions for Resolution
Punjab Finance Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted to resolve employee issues, Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema, held a series of meetings with representatives from 47 different employee unions, according to an official release.
Representatives from departments, including Education, Health, Water Supply, Power, Contract Employees, and various Joint Fronts, participated in the meetings to raise their long-pending concerns.
The core issues discussed primarily revolved around the regularization of contractual and outsourced employees. The Minister assured the union representatives that the government would undertake a sympathetic review of their demands within the existing legal framework, the release stated.
To ensure time-bound action for resolving employee-related matters, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema issued three key directions to all administrative departments:
Inclusion of Union Representatives: Departments must actively involve representatives of employee unions in drafting any policy proposals related to employee welfare before finalization. This step aims to incorporate ground realities and prevent future ambiguities.
Immediate Resolution at Department Level: Senior officials were directed to promptly address all issues that fall within the scope of departmental-level action without unnecessary delay.
Coordination for Complex Matters: For issues involving legal or financial implications, departments have been instructed to coordinate closely with the Advocate General’s Office, the Department of Personnel, and the Finance Department to ensure early resolution.
Reaffirming the Cabinet Sub-Committee’s mandate, Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema emphasized that the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government is deeply committed to the welfare of every employee. He added that the government seeks to move beyond assurances toward clear, actionable, and time-bound solutions.
During the five-hour-long deliberations, the Minister assured the union representatives that the outcomes of the discussions will be translated into concrete actions to address legitimate demands at the earliest.
He further stated that the state government is working diligently to create a harmonious and productive work environment that benefits both employees and the state.
