Amritsar Rural Police, in close coordination with central agencies, have apprehended two operatives of a terror module and recovered one Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) along with its launcher from their possession, according to the Information and Public Relations Department (IPRD), Punjab, which cited Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav in a press note.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mehakdeep Singh alias Mehak, a resident of Wadali, Amritsar, and Aditya alias Adhi, a resident of village Bhaga Chhina, Amritsar. Police teams have also taken custody of the motorcycle the suspects were riding.
DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that, as per preliminary investigation, the arrested accused were in contact with Pakistan’s ISI operative, who had sent the consignment from across the border via drone, and with Harpreet Singh alias Vicky, currently lodged in Ferozepur Jail.
“The RPG was intended for a targeted terror attack,” the DGP was quoted as saying in the press note.
He added that further investigations are underway to establish “forward and backward linkages in this case to unearth the entire network.”
