Thick Black Clouds Envelop Cities While Punjab Sees Relief from Flooding

CHANDIGARH: After grappling with flood conditions, Punjab is now witnessing a return to normalcy with the monsoon resuming its course. The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert in 11 districts of the state today, accompanied by strong winds and thundershowers in some areas. Cities are witnessing a mix of clouds and sunshine as the weather pattern fluctuates.

According to data received from the Meteorological Department, the districts likely to experience rainfall include Fazilka, Faridkot, Moga, Ferozepur, Jalandhar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Pathankot. The previous day saw minimal rainfall in the region, with recorded amounts of 4 mm each in Patiala and Ludhiana, 19.5 mm in Barnala, 6 mm in Fatehgarh Sahib, 3.5 mm in Moga, 2.5 mm in Ropar, and 5 mm in Balachore.

In the midst of these weather developments, the water level in the Bhakra Dam continues to rise steadily. The latest measurements indicate that the water level of Bhakra Dam has increased by one and a half feet compared to the previous day. As of Saturday morning, the water level reached 1659.51 feet, compared to the previous day's measurement of 1658.01 feet. The inflow of water in the dam currently stands at 68,403 cusecs, while only 41,641 cusecs of water are being released through the turbines.

Similarly, Nangal Dam is releasing 12,350 cusecs of water into Nangal Hydel Canal, while Anandpur Sahib Hydel Canal and Sutlej River have water releases of 10,150 cusecs and 19,200 cusecs, respectively. Despite the increase in water levels, Bhakra Dam remains approximately 21 feet below the danger mark of 1680 feet. Residents of the affected districts are urged to remain cautious and take necessary precautions during the rain and windy conditions. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
