Indian Army Deploys Army Aviation Helicopters For Flood and Relief Rescue Operations in Punjab Latest: The Indian Army, in response to the massive floods in parts of Punjab, has deployed Army Aviation Helicopters for flood relief and rescue operations as part of its HADR efforts, the Indian Army said.  

“Displaying selfless commitment and extraordinary flying skills, the Army Aviation units are tirelessly working around the clock in inclement weather to save lives,” ADG PI Indian Army said in a statement posted on its X handle.

Yesterday, on August 27, at around 4 PM, on receiving information about rising floodwaters threatening lives in the general area of Lassian, Gurdaspur, Punjab, Indian Army undertook a daring rescue effort, and 27 persons were successfully evacuated.

“In one such incident on 27 August 25 at around 4 PM, on receiving word of rising floodwaters threatening lives in the general area of Lassian, Gurdaspur, #Punjab, a daredevil rescue effort was undertaken which consisted of multiple shuttles by three Cheetah helicopters of the Army Aviation Units. Their heroic and timely action in the most extreme flying conditions led to the successful evacuation of  27 persons.”

“The Indian Army remains committed to providing all necessary assistance and support to ensure the safety of all citizens during this time of crisis, 'Service Before Self',” the statement read.

Rescue and relief operations are underway in various parts of the state.

Gurdaspur is reported to be the worst affected, with more than a hundred villages inundated, including the villages several kilometers away from the Ravi River.

Water levels continue to rise in Sadda Sheikha and Magar Muddia.

A local told IANS, "We are currently in Magar Muddia village, located in Gurdaspur district. This village is about 6.5–7 kilometers from the Ravi River, but floodwaters have already entered the area, and nearly all surrounding villages are submerged. The situation is worsening as water continues to flow in heavily from upstream..."

Indian Army, earlier today, deployed its advanced ATOR N1200 (ATV) in flood-hit Amritsar, Punjab. This vehicle operates in deep water & rugged terrain, helping evacuate stranded villagers as rescue operations continue.
