Punjab Vigilance Bureau Arrests Pathankot Deed Writer Red-Handed in Bribery Case
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), Amritsar range, has arrested a deed writer working in the Pathankot tehsil complex red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000, the bureau said in a press release.
The accused has been identified as Deepak Kumar. According to an official spokesperson of the VB, the arrest was made following a complaint lodged by a resident of Bungol village in Pathankot district.
The complainant informed the bureau that after purchasing land, he had approached the accused to get the property registered.
The required registration fee was transferred to the deed writer, who subsequently completed the registration process. However, the accused allegedly demanded an additional bribe of Rs 30,000, claiming that the original registration documents would be signed by the Tehsildar only after the payment was made.
After verifying the complaint, a VB team from the Amritsar range laid a trap and caught the deed writer red-handed while allegedly accepting the bribe amount from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses, the spokesperson said.
A case has been registered against the accused at the VB police station, Amritsar range, under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Further investigation into the case is underway, the spokesperson added.
Spokesperson said that the action is part of the Vigilance Bureau’s ongoing drive against corruption in the state.
