According to sources, the fire started in the blood bank’s store room, where some important records were kept.
Due to the timely action of the security guards and hospital staff, a major tragedy was averted, and no loss of life has been reported.
A security guard at the Civil Hospital told the media that he was on night duty when he suddenly noticed a strong smell of smoke in the morning. He said,“At first, I thought it might be a small fire, but when I went upstairs, I saw the entire room engulfed in flames.”
Showing courage, he and the staff activated the fire cylinders, used water, and together tried to control the fire. While some staff members were helping evacuate patients, others were engaged in extinguishing the flames.
Another security guard mentioned that multiple calls were made to the fire brigade, but they were not answered initially. He said that if the staff had not acted with such bravery, the situation could have been disastrous.
Although the fire brigade eventually arrived at the scene, the hospital staff had already brought the fire under control.
Hospital sanitation workers also confirmed that the fire was caused by a short circuit, and the staff responded in time to manage the situation.
Dr. Swaranjit Singh Dhawan, SMO (Senior Medical Officer) of Civil Hospital, confirmed to the media that the fire broke out in the blood bank’s store room where important records were kept. He praised the courage of the hospital staff and security guards, stating that they prevented the fire from spreading further.
