12 FIRs Against Farmers for Stubble Burning, Amritsar Leads Latest News: Punjab Police have registered 12 FIRs against farmers for stubble burning, according to a report by the Hindustan Times.
11 out of the 12 FIRs were filed in Amritsar.

According to the report, the action comes after the Supreme Court on Wednesday observed that farmers in Delhi’s neighbouring states cannot claim “absolute immunity” from prosecution for burning crop residue.

Punjab began tracking stubble burning cases from September 15. However, the report stated that the first FIRs were registered only after September 18.

The report further cited data from the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), which showed that the state has reported 48 cases of crop residue burning since September 15.

The FIRs have been lodged under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to disobedience of orders given by a public servant.
