Renewed Recognition & Empowerment: Sirkad Sabha Punjab Affirms the Identity and Contributions of the Sirkiband Caste
CHANDIGARH: The Sirkiband Caste, a caste that was identified in the 1961 population survey, has been a part of Punjab since 1950, according to the discussions held during a special meeting of the Sirkad Sabha Punjab in Ferozepur on Tuesday. President Pritam Singh addressed various issues during the meeting, shedding light on the presence of the Sirkiband caste in Punjab and other neighboring regions.
The Sirkiband caste is predominantly found in districts such as Patiala, Sangrur, Ropar, Ferozepur, Muktsar, and Bathinda, contributing to a significant population across the state. Furthermore, the Sirkiband community also extends its presence beyond Punjab, encompassing regions like Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, and Chandigarh.
Many Sirkiband individuals have settled in villages such as Khowala, Vihari, Rekha, Megha, among others, located in Ferozepur district. It is worth noting that the Sirkiband caste has not been classified as a scheduled caste in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. Contrary to erroneous claims suggesting the absence of Sirkiband caste people in Punjab, the reality stands in stark contrast.
The recent meeting aimed to shed light on the history, presence, and significance of the Sirkiband community in Punjab and other regions. President Pritam Singh and members of the Sirkad Sabha Punjab emphasized the need for accurate recognition and representation of the Sirkiband caste, debunking any misinformation surrounding their existence in the state.
The discussions held during the meeting revealed the long-standing presence of the Sirkiband caste, which has contributed to the diverse cultural fabric of Punjab and other areas. The Sabha intends to raise awareness about the Sirkad community's heritage, traditions, and socio-economic challenges they face, with the ultimate goal of fostering inclusivity and equal opportunities for all castes.
