Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann Leads Decision-Making on Key Agendas
Punjab Assembly Winter Session 2023 Date and Schedule Latest News: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Cabinet has given its nod for the convening of the fifth session of the 16th Punjab Vidhan Sabha. The winter session is scheduled to take place on November 28 and 29. The decision was reached during a Cabinet meeting held on Monday at the Punjab Civil Secretariat-1 in the presence of Chief Minister Mann.
The session will commence on November 28 with a solemn tribute to departed souls. The specific business and agenda for this two-day legislative assembly session will be determined shortly by the Business Advisory Committee.
Key Cabinet Approvals:
- Creation of Posts at Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University: The Cabinet approved the creation and filling of nine technical cadre posts through direct recruitment at Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Sports University in Patiala. These include one post of Assistant Manager, two posts of Programmer, and two posts each of Technical Assistant and Clerk-cum-Data Entry Operator. This move is aimed at enhancing the university's operational capabilities and supporting students in their daily activities.
- Punjab Canal and Drainage Bill, 2023: The Punjab Cabinet gave the green light to the Punjab Canal and Drainage Bill, 2023, focusing on the control and management of canals and drainage in the state. The bill aims to ensure the timely maintenance, repair, and cleaning of canals, drains, and water sources, facilitating the seamless provision of canal water for irrigation to farmers and landowners. Additionally, it establishes a fair and transparent mechanism for addressing water users' grievances and curbing unnecessary water wastage.
- Closure and Merger of Punjab State Social Welfare Board (PSSWB): The Cabinet decided to close the Punjab State Social Welfare Board (PSSWB) and approved the merger of its employees, pensioners, and five Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) blocks with the Social Security, Women and Child Development Department.
- Approval of Cases Related to Prisoner Releases: The Cabinet granted approval for one case of commutation of life imprisonment for a state jail detainee, while rejecting four other similar cases. These cases will now be forwarded to the Governor of Punjab for consideration under Article 161 of the Constitution of India.
- Administrative Report Approval for Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department: The Cabinet approved the Annual Management Report of the Department of Tourism, Cultural Affairs, Archeology, and Museums, Punjab, for the fiscal year 2021-2022.
