Ludhiana Sees 48% Drop in Water Contamination Complaints, Sees Growth in Water Quality Improvement: Municipal Corporation Ludhiana has recorded a 48% decline in water contamination complaints over the past three years, according to Punjab Local Government Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh, a press release said on October 12.
As per official data, cited in the press release, the number of complaints has fallen from 608 in 2022-23 to 318 so far in 2025. Dr. Singh said that all reported cases of contamination have been permanently resolved.
The minister attributed the improvement to ongoing efforts to upgrade the city’s water distribution network. He stated that 12.6 km of new water supply lines were laid in 2024, and over 20 km of new pipelines have been installed this year, replacing old and damaged infrastructure.
Dr. Singh said that major works have been completed in several localities, including Dhandari Khurd, Jamalpur Awana, Issa Nagri, Sherpur Khurd, Shanti Nagar, Tagore Nagar, Jawaddi, Sunet, Punjabi Bagh, Karamsar Colony, Khud Mohalla, Sekhewal, Jain Colony, Mayapuri, Mohar Singh Nagar, Dhandari Kalan, Dugri Phase-2, and Vikas Nagar.
He noted that while the civic body continues to replace old supply lines, contamination often occurs due to rusted private connections and illegal sewer linkages, which are being identified and rectified on priority.
“Our mission is to ensure that each household in Ludhiana receives potable water without interruption. Wherever required, new projects are being initiated to achieve this target,” Dr. Singh said.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing safe drinking water to every household and directed officials to ensure an uninterrupted and clean water supply across the city.
