Pilgrimage to Sri Hemkund Sahib to begin on 25 May latest news: The pilgrimage to Sri Hemkund Sahib is commencing on May 25, 2025. The first group of pilgrims will leave for the pilgrimage on May 22. The Indian Army has begun clearing snow at Gurudwara Govindghat in preparation for the yatra.
Sri Hemkund Sahib, located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, is one of the most sacred Sikh shrines. The yatra to the shrine will begin on May 22, led by the Panj Pyare, with the first Jatha departing on the same day.
For the smooth running of the yatra and the safety of the yatris, the Indian Army has started clearing snow at Gurudwara Govindghat to ensure a safe trekking route for the devotees.
According to a report in Babushahi, Uttarakhand Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Gurmit Singh, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, along with several ministers, saints, and distinguished guests, will be present at the ceremonial events at Gurudwara Sri Hemkund Sahib complex in Rishikesh.
The Sri Hemkund Sahib shrine is situated at an altitude of approximately 15,000 feet. The shrine remains under snow for most of the year, due to which the yatra is held for a limited time.
As per the report, this year, for the smooth functioning of the yatra and the safety of the devotees, special arrangements have been made in coordination between the Hemkund Sahib Management Trust, the Indian Army, and the local administration.
Pilgrims typically embark on a 13-kilometer trek from Govindghat to reach Hemkund Sahib, often halting at Ghangaria for rest.
The Hemkund Sahib Yatra is an annual Sikh pilgrimage to the revered Gurdwara Hemkund Sahib and is believed to be the place where Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, meditated in a previous life.
Last year, about 2 lakh devotees visited Hemkund Sahib. As per reports, over 1.7 lakh devotees undertook the pilgrimage in 2023.
