Update:
The husband later shot himself dead. After allegedly killing his wife and mother-in-law, the accused hid inside a government quarter. When the police reached the location, he threatened to shoot himself.
Despite an hour-long attempt by the police to persuade him to surrender, he shot himself, dying on the spot.
The whole incident reportedly occurred due to a domestic dispute.
Gurpreet Singh, who was posted as a guard at Central Jail, Gurdaspur, had returned home with his service AK-47 rifle. At around 3 am, he opened fire on his wife, Akwinder Kaur, and his mother-in-law, Gurjit Kaur. Both died on the spot.
After the murders, Gurpreet fled and hid in the government quarters in Scheme No. 7, Gurdaspur. According to family members, there had been long-standing domestic tensions between Gurpreet and his wife. His sister-in-law, Parminder Kaur, said they had frequent fights since their marriage in 2016, which is believed to be the main cause of the incident.
