
The war against drugs continues, and with the state's unwavering pace and dedication, victory seems certain.
In a dedicated and tireless effort initiated by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eradicate the drug menace from Punjab, on the 220th day of the ongoing campaign, the state police conducted raids at 343 locations on Tuesday and arrested 80 drug smugglers in a single day, following the registration of 53 First Information Reports (FIRs) across the state, the Information and Public Relations Department, Punjab, said in a press release.
With these recent arrests, the total number of drug smugglers apprehended since the initiative began has reached 32,196.
The fresh raids and arrests on Tuesday were part of the continued war against drugs, “Yudh Nashian De Virudh” launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eliminate the drug menace from the state, now ongoing for 220 consecutive days.
Police have recovered 505 grams of heroin, 50 intoxicant tablets/capsules, and Rs 8,840 in drug money from the possession of the arrested smugglers.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has directed the Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police to work diligently to make Punjab a completely drug-free state.
A five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee, led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and constituted by the Punjab government, continues to monitor this war against the drug problem that has gripped the state.
During Tuesday’s operation, over 120 police teams, comprising more than 1,000 personnel under the supervision of 67 gazetted officers, conducted 343 raids across Punjab. The teams also checked 358 suspicious persons during the day-long operation.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the state government has implemented a three-pronged strategy—Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP)—to free Punjab from the scourge of drugs. As part of the de-addiction initiative, the police convinced 29 individuals to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment on October 7.
