Meteorological Dept Warns of Heavy Rain & Strong Winds, Impacting Temp across Punjab

CHANDIGARH: The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for possible heavy rain in eight districts of Punjab, signaling a significant weather change in North India today. Over the weekend, intermittent rain has caused a notable drop in temperatures across the state. Monday evening saw the maximum temperature plummeting to 7.6 degrees below the normal range, and the trend continued into Tuesday morning with a minimum temperature 1.4 degrees lower than the previous day.

The Yellow alert has been sounded for Sangrur, Barnala, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Moga, and Jalandhar districts, indicating the likelihood of heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. Light rain is also expected in other parts of Punjab throughout the day. The continuous rainfall over the past three days has had a considerable impact on temperatures, with a drop of 5 degrees in the maximum temperature and 1.4 degrees in the minimum temperature.

Over the last 24 hours, the recorded rainfall was 35.2 mm in Gurdaspur, 20 mm in Pathankot, 11.5 mm in SBS Nagar, 6.1 mm in Ludhiana, 5 mm in Amritsar, and 8 mm in Jalandhar.

Notably, The Persistent rain has not only affected temperatures but also brought about a noticeable chill in the air across various cities in Punjab. Gurdaspur experienced the lowest temperature in the state, with a recorded minimum of 15.7 degrees. Other cities like Ludhiana, SBS Nagar, and Fatehgarh Sahib witnessed minimum temperatures of 15.8 degrees, 16.1 degrees, and 16.3 degrees, respectively.
