Punjab and Chandigarh Earthquake Today: Punjab witnessed earthquake tremors on Monday in Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar among other areas after an earthquake hit Pakistan. 

National Center of Seismology stated, "Eeartquake of M: 5.8, On: 11/09/2024 12:58:03 IST, Lat: 31.25 N, Long: 70.52 E, Depth: 33 Km, Location: Pakistan. 

An earthquake has recently occurred in Punjab. Earthquake shocks were felt in Ludhiana, Amritsar and Jalandhar. People panicked and came out of their houses when the earthquake struck. The people sitting in the commercial establishments also ran outside in shock. Mild earthquake tremors were also felt in Delhi-NCR. The epicenter of the earthquake was in Pakistan. Earthquake shocks were felt in Islamabad and Lahore. The magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 5.8 on the Richter scale.

What should be done to avoid an earthquake?

To avoid earthquakes, houses should be built with earthquake-resistant materials. A house should not be built higher than 2-3 floors. Apart from soil test, other things should also be taken care of before building a house.

Things to do and avoid during an earthquake:

• Do not use the elevator during an earthquake, use the stairs instead of the elevator to exit.
• If you are stuck somewhere, don't run away.
• If you are driving a vehicle, stop it immediately.
• If you are driving, stop the car on the side of the road away from the bridge.
• In the event of an earthquake, immediately move to a safe and open area.
• In the event of an earthquake, move away from heavy objects placed on top of windows, shelves, fans, etc.
