Jagjit Singh Dallewal Health Update, Farmers Protest Hunger Strike at Khanauri Border: In a bold escalation of their ongoing agitation, farmers at the Khanauri border between Punjab and Haryana have initiated a hunger strike under the leadership of Jagjit Singh Dallewal.
On Tuesday, no food was prepared at the protest site, and even the community langar was halted. Protesters have appealed to nearby villagers to refrain from bringing food to emphasize the seriousness of their demands.
Plans for Future Action Underway
While the hunger strike continues at Khanauri, key discussions are happening at the Shambhu border among farmer leaders. Reports suggest that plans to march toward Delhi are being finalized, with an official announcement expected during a press conference later in the day.
Legal Challenges Surrounding Border Closure
The closure of the Khanauri border has now reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court once again. A fresh public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed, naming the Punjab, Haryana, and Central governments as respondents. This development follows the Supreme Court’s dismissal of a similar petition the previous day.
Earlier, the High Court had directed the reopening of the border, but the Haryana Government’s appeal to the Supreme Court resulted in the order being stayed. The ongoing blockade continues to cause significant disruptions to daily life and transport in the region.
Farmer Leader Dallewal’s Health Update:
Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a hunger strike for over two weeks, is reportedly in grave health. According to farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher, Dallewal’s condition has worsened considerably, with his kidneys and liver showing signs of severe strain.
Doctors have confirmed that Dallewal has lost 11 kilograms since beginning his fast. His blood pressure currently reads 124/95, with a sugar level of 93 and a pulse rate of 87. Despite his deteriorating health, Dallewal remains determined, referring to the protest as a “make-or-break” fight for farmers’ rights.
Cleanup Drive and Community Support
At the Shambhu border, farmers have started clearing debris from past clashes with the police, where tear gas was used to disperse protesters. Pandher noted that the residue of the gas still lingers in the air, affecting the protesters.
Additionally, farmers across villages plan to hold special prayers on December 11, seeking divine intervention for Dallewal’s recovery. Leaders have called for increased participation in the movement to strengthen their efforts.
