Numerous roads in Chandigarh have been closed
CHANDIGARH: The City of Chandigarh is grappling with the aftermath of heavy and incessant rainfall, as the situation continues to worsen. In response, the administration has taken swift action by dividing the city into 18 zones and implementing a range of precautionary measures to ensure the safety of its residents.
Numerous roads in Chandigarh have been closed due to the adverse weather conditions, prompting the Chandigarh Traffic Police to issue continuous advisories to the public. The District Emergency Management Authority of Chandigarh has also issued orders, restricting common people from venturing near lakes, ponds, and other water bodies, which may pose a risk during this period.
To effectively manage the crisis, the civil authorities and municipal engineering department have been directed to promptly remove fallen trees and plants, a common occurrence during the rainy season. These efforts aim to prevent further disruptions and safeguard the well-being of citizens. Keeping a close eye on the weather forecast, the municipal corporation has undertaken a proactive approach by dividing the entire city into 18 zones and establishing dedicated teams for each zone. These teams will be deployed 24 hours a day within their respective areas, ensuring round-the-clock assistance and support to affected residents. Furthermore, in order to bolster their response capabilities, all holidays for municipal corporation employees have been canceled.
In adherence to the precautionary measures, emergency control rooms across Chandigarh have been directed to remain operational 24 hours a day. This will ensure the seamless coordination of rescue and relief efforts, as well as provide vital information and assistance to those in need.
Following the footsteps of Mohali, the Chandigarh administration has called upon the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to aid in the ongoing crisis. Specifically, the rising water level in Sukhna Lake has raised concerns, prompting the administration to request the deployment of NDRF teams in various areas of the city today.
