Presenting Sikhs as separatists is not at all justified: SGPC

AMRITSAR: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has strongly objected to NCERT giving wrong information about Sikhs in the syllabus books. Shiromani Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that NCERT is misrepresenting historical details related to Sikhs. It has recorded misleading information about Sri Anandpur Sahib's resolution in the 12th standard book 'Politics in Independent India', which has hurt the sentiments of the community.

Presenting Sikhs as separatists while explaining the resolution of Sri Anandpur Sahib is not at all justified, so NCERT should remove it immediately. Dhami said that along with this, action has been taken from the partisan side while removing some information from the book and adding some new ones. He said, "It is sad that changes are being made according to what suits the current central government."

Curricula especially about minorities are being abolished and arbitrary syllabus is being created. He said that accordingly, the resolution of Anandpur Sahib has been wrongly interpreted in the book 'Politics in Independent India'.

Harjinder Singh Dhami further said, "The rights and interests of the states are being ignored. It seems that the people who speak the language of Hindu Rashtra are being deliberately favored, while on the other hand, instead of solving the issues of minorities, a counter narrative is being created by creating misconceptions about them."
