Punjab is 17th Indian State to Prohibit Manufacture, Sale, and Use of Cruel Glue Paper Boards

Punjab Rat Glue Trap Ban Latest News: In a significant move for animal welfare, the state of Punjab has recently imposed a ban on the use of glue traps for catching rats. These traps, commonly known as glue paper boards, have raised concerns among animal lovers and activists for their inhumane treatment of rodents and the unintended harm caused to other wildlife.

For the past 2-3 years, glue paper boards had gained popularity as a method to catch rats. These boards consist of a layer of adhesive applied to paper, which traps rats when they come into contact with it. However, this practice has faced strong opposition from animal rights advocates who consider it a cruel and indiscriminate means of pest control.

Animal lovers and concerned citizens in Punjab raised their voices against this practice, highlighting the suffering of rats caught in the sticky traps and the collateral damage to other creatures. Birds, in particular, were at risk as they inadvertently got entangled while attempting to feed on the trapped rats. Tragically, many birds lost their lives due to this unintentional consequence.

As a result of these concerns, Punjab has become the 17th state in India to ban the manufacture, sale, and use of glue paper boards for pest control. The move follows a directive from the Animal Welfare Board in 2011, which urged states to address the issue. Several states, including Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, have heeded the call and implemented similar bans.

The Punjab Animal Husbandry Department has issued orders to district offices to enforce the ban effectively, thereby protecting both rats and unintended victims of this practice. With this move, the state of Punjab joins a growing number of regions in India committed to promoting humane and environmentally responsible pest control methods, emphasizing the importance of compassion and conservation in their approach to wildlife management.
