Chief of Sri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena Succumbs to Fatal Shooting; Two Arrested as Rajput Community Protests, Demands Justice
Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi Murder Case Latest Update: The Assassination of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, the national president of Sri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, has sent shockwaves through Rajasthan, leading to widespread protests and a state-wide shutdown. The two accused responsible for the fatal shooting have been apprehended in Haryana, identified as Rohit Rathore from Nagaur, Rajasthan, and Nitin Fauji from Mahindergarh, Haryana. The incident has fueled outrage among the Rajput community, prompting calls for a Rajasthan Bandh in protest.
The tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday when two assailants entered Gogamedi's residence in Jaipur, firing approximately 15 rounds and fatally wounding him. The gunmen also injured Gogamedi's security personnel, Ajit Singh, and claimed the life of Naveen Kumar, who had accompanied the miscreants to Gogamedi's house.
The motive behind the assassination points to a premeditated conspiracy, with reports revealing a prior alert from the Punjab Police to the Rajasthan Police about a potential plot to harm Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi while he was in Bathinda Jail.
Rohit Godara, associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has claimed responsibility for the murder in a social media post, citing Gogamedi's alleged support for the gang's adversaries as the motive. The Director General of Police (DGP) Umesh Mishra stated that the assailants entered Gogamedi's residence under the guise of a conversation before opening fire. The police are currently conducting raids in nearby districts and Bikaner Division to apprehend individuals associated with the Rohit Godara gang.
The tragic incident has ignited widespread protests across Jaipur, Jodhpur, Alwar, Churu, and Udaipur, with supporters demanding swift justice and the immediate arrest of the culprits. The supporters have declared a Jaipur bandh and issued warnings of a state-level strike.
Governor Kalraj Mishra, responding to the heinous crime, has directed the police to take strict and effective action against the criminals, emphasizing the need to uphold law and order in the state. Both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress have expressed sorrow over Gogamedi's brutal murder, with BJP state president CP Joshi emphasizing the urgency of arresting those spreading chaos.
Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi had previously sought a ticket from the Congress for the upcoming 2023 assembly elections but was denied, leading to a rift. In November, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot wrote to Gogamedi, expressing support for the official candidate announced by the party. As investigations continue, the state remains on high alert, grappling with the aftermath of the targeted assassination that has left the Rajput community mourning and demanding justice.
