Smog Causes Low Visibility and Road Hazards; Authorities Urge Motorists to Exercise Caution
Punjab Weather Update: Punjab finds itself veiled in a thick blanket of dense fog, prompting both the police and the weather department to issue alerts across the state. The onset of smog has significantly reduced visibility in various districts, with Ludhiana and Patiala experiencing readings as low as 50 meters and 200 meters, respectively. Similar conditions prevail in other regions, necessitating a call for heightened caution on the roads.
A concerning incident in Ferozepur highlighted the perils of the prevailing smog, as a collision occurred between a teacher's vehicle and a truck. Meteorologists and traffic police officials emphasize the severity of the situation, citing extremely low visibility. In response, the police advise motorists to exercise extreme care and diligence, particularly before embarking on long journeys. Drivers are urged to conduct thorough vehicle checks, ensuring that indicators, fog lamps, and other safety features are in optimal working condition.
Over the past two days, Punjab has witnessed a significant rise in morning fog, accompanied by a drop in temperatures. Most districts recorded minimum temperatures ranging between eight and nine degrees Celsius, intensifying the winter chill. Notably, Faridkot, Gurdaspur, and Barnala reported minimum temperatures at 8.5 degrees Celsius, Moga at 8.6 degrees Celsius, and Ludhiana at 8.9 degrees Celsius.
Looking ahead, the Meteorological Department forecasts continued morning fog on Wednesday. However, a shift in Punjab's weather pattern is anticipated from December 11 onwards, as the activation of a Western Disturbance in Rajasthan and surrounding areas is expected to bring light to moderate rains to many districts. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and exercise caution amidst the ongoing atmospheric changes.
