Spokesman News Service: Chandigarh, November 6: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has greeted people on the occasion of Diwali and Bandi Chhor Diwas, with an appeal for a green and environment-friendly celebration of the festivals in a spirit of bonhomie and harmony.

In his message, the Chief Minister exhorted people to refrain from bursting crackers to curb the growing levels of pollution and, instead, to light up their homes with lights on the joyous occasion. The responsibility to save the environment for the future generations lies on our shoulders, he said, urging people to bring home Goddess Lakshmi in a traditional manner, with prayers and earthen diyas.

At the same time, the Chief Minister also greeted people, especially the Sikh Panth, on the historic 'Bandi Chhor Diwas', to mark the release of 52 Hindu Princes from the Gwalior fort by Sixth Guru Sri Hargobind Sahib ji on the Diwali festival in year 1612.

Captain Amarinder Singh has also extended warm wishes to the people for Vishwakarma Day, hoping that Lord Vishwakarma’s craftsmenship would continue to imbue one and all with the feeling of dignity of labour. May these festivals bring peace and prosperity to the lives of the people, he added.
