Ram Rahim demanded a CBI investigation into the matter

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court is scheduled to conduct a crucial hearing in the Sauda Sadh case today. The case revolves around a petition filed by Dera Sacha Sauda Chief  Gurmeet Singh Ram Rahim, who has expressed reservations about the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Punjab and has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter.

Previously, the High Court had ruled in favor of Ram Rahim, instructing that the evidence and documents gathered by the CBI be made accessible to him within a week. The petition, filed by Sauda Sadh, pertains to a 2015 case of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The Punjab government initially entrusted the case to the SIT of the Punjab Police, which sparked concerns and led to the present legal proceedings.

The trial for this case was originally underway in Punjab but was later transferred to the District Court of Chandigarh. In light of this, the petitioner had submitted an application to the District Court seeking access to the evidence and documents collected by the CBI.

In the petition filed by Sauda Sadh, it was revealed that the district court had acknowledged that the SIT had indeed handed over the documents obtained by the CBI. However, Ram Rahim contested this assertion in his petition to the High Court, stating that the documents and evidence provided were not identical. This discrepancy has left the petitioner concerned, as he believes that without these documents, his case cannot be presented effectively.
