Scheme of special assistance to states for capital investment extended for FY 2023-24: Nitin Gadkari

NEW DELHI: The Parliament was informed on Wednesday that NHAI has spent Rs 13,281.03 crore for development and maintenance of national highways in Punjab in the last five years, along with Rs 6,000 crore earmarked for construction of national highways. 

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha said that 11,025 vehicles (7,750 private and 3,275 government vehicles) have been removed from registered vehicle scrapping facilities till March 31 this year. He said that 24 states/UTs reported 2,56,935 government vehicles which were more than 15 years old.

He said that the central government has provided incentives to the state governments to implement the vehicle scrapping policy. The Department of Expenditure of the Ministry of Finance has included an incentive of Rs 2000 crore in special assistance to the states for the "Capital Investment 2022-23" scheme released for the states. Gadkari said that the scheme of special assistance to states for capital investment has been extended for the financial year 2023-24.
