Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Calls for Dialogue to Resolve Kashmir Issue latest news: Muzaffarabad: During a special session of the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) Legislative Assembly on "Kashmir Solidarity Day," Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan's dedication to resolving all issues with India, including Kashmir, through dialogue.
Sharif urged India to move beyond the mindset established on August 5, 2019, when Article 370 was revoked, which removed Jammu and Kashmir's special status and reorganized the region into two Union Territories. He called on India to fulfill its commitments to the United Nations and engage in discussions to address longstanding issues.
Citing the Lahore Declaration of 1999, where then Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pakistan reached mutual agreements during his visit, Sharif stressed that dialogue is essential for both Islamabad and New Delhi. "Peace is the path to progress," he remarked.
The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan's unwavering moral, diplomatic, and political support for the Kashmiri people, asserting that the only viable solution to the Kashmir issue is the right to self-determination as outlined in UN Security Council resolutions. He urged the international community to pressure India to allow Kashmiris to freely determine their future, which is crucial for lasting peace in the region.
These remarks come amid ongoing tensions between the two nations, with India consistently asserting that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of its territory. India has also expressed a desire to maintain normal relations with Pakistan, provided there is an environment free from terror, hostility, and violence. In response, the Pakistani Prime Minister accused India of stockpiling weapons and urged New Delhi to choose wisdom and peace for the sake of progress.
