Punjab Government Closes 18 Toll Plazas, Providing Direct Financial Relief to Citizens

People received direct financial relief as the 18th toll plaza in Punjab became free.

Chandigarh: The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has closed 18 toll plazas as part of its efforts to provide direct financial relief to the people amid rising inflation. With the closure of these toll plazas, passengers across the state save lakhs of rupees daily. Under the latest directive, two toll plazas on the Patiala-Nabha-Malerkotla highway were closed on August 5.

The collection of road user fees has been halted at the toll plazas located at Moharana and Kalyan on the Patiala-Nabha-Malerkotla route. These two toll plazas previously generated Rs 87 lakh per month. Stopping toll collection is a crucial step toward economic relief for the people of Punjab, reducing the financial burden on citizens and ensuring smooth and easy movement on these roads. Since coming to power, the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has abolished tolls on a total of 590 km of state highways.

The Punjab government remains committed to providing maximum economic relief to its citizens while focusing on building quality infrastructure. To date, the Mann government has constructed significant road projects, including the Sutlej Bridge on the Patiala-Samana Road, the Ludhiana-Malerkotla-Sangrur Road, the Balachore-Garhshankar-Hoshiarpur-Dasuha Road, the Kiratpur Sahib-Nangal-Una Road, the Hoshiarpur-Tanda Road, and the Makhu road. The removal of tolls from state highways, including the High Level Bridge over the river, Moga-Kotkapura Road, Ferozepur-Fazilka Road, Bhawanigarh-Nabha-Gobindgarh Road, Dakha-Raikot-Barnala Road, and now the Patiala-Nabha-Malerkotla Road, has brought relief to the daily lives of common people.

With this move, the Punjab government has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of its citizens, providing tangible economic benefits and improving the overall driving experience on state highways.
