Mansa Jail Superintendent Suspended Amid Allegations of Providing Illegal Facilities to Inmates

MANSA: Arvinder Pal Singh Bhatti, the Superintendent of Mansa Jail, has been suspended by the Punjab government over charges of neglecting his duties and alleged involvement in providing unauthorized facilities to prisoners in exchange for monetary gains. In the wake of this development, Deputy Superintendent Iqbal Singh Brar has been appointed as an interim replacement to ensure the smooth functioning of the correctional facility.

The Allegations were brought to light by Subhash Kumar Arora, son of Makhan Lal and a former inmate who was recently released from the jail. Arora disclosed to the media that financially affluent prisoners within the jail were enjoying various amenities, including access to illicit substances, by offering financial gratifications to the jail staff.

In response to these serious allegations, the Punjab government promptly suspended three warders, including two assistant superintendents, from their positions. Additionally, the government has filed a case against Assistant Superintendent Revam Tej Singla, Kuljit Singh, Pharmacy Officer Sandeep Singh, Hawalati Amarjit Singh, and prisoner Ankur Mehta at Sadar police station.

Deputy Superintendent Iqbal Singh Brar, entrusted with overseeing the daily operations of Mansa Jail during this period, reiterated the government's commitment to transparency, integrity, and adherence to the rule of law within the penal system. The objective is to conduct a thorough investigation, maintain accountability, and ensure that all involved parties are held responsible for any wrongdoing.
