Supreme Court Issues Notice To Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, J&K Latest News: The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notice to Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu And Kashmir in a plea relating to the floods, rains in the state and felling of trees.
The top court has directed the states to submit their response within three weeks.
The Chief Justice of India, B. R. Gavai, said, “prima facie, it is seen that there is illegal felling of trees that happened, we issue notice to the respondent, returnable within 3 weeks.”
CJI called the issue serious. “Mr SG, pls take note of this, it appears a very serious issue, media it is shown that a large number of wooden blocks are flowing in Himachal,” the CJI added.
Punjab has been hit by the worst flood of the past 40 years, resulting in loss of 30 lives, loss of livestock, houses, and farmland, and crops, and educational institutions have been shut in the state for over a week.
Meanwhile, massive destruction and loss of lives due to flood-related incidents were seen in the states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir for the past few weeks.
The rescue and relief operations are ongoing round the clock in the Punjab as well as in other flood and landslide-affected states.
