The videos of Harpreet’s family members crying for help have gone viral.

Punjab News Today: In a shocking incident, a man identified as Harpreet Singh, an IRS officer in the irrigation department, was allegedly shot dead by his father-in-law, Malwinder Singh Sidhu, a suspended assistant inspector general of the Punjab police. 

Likewise, Malwinder Singh Sidhu has been arrested. It has been reported that Harpreet Singh was involved in a matrimonial dispute with his wife due to which he had reached the district court for a hearing in the case.

Both families arrived at the district court for the mediation session wherein Malwinder Singh requested to use the washroom and asked Harpreet to lead the way. Later, Malwinder took out a weapon and shot Harpreet twice after which he fell down to the ground.

People rushed to the spot. The videos of Harpreet’s family members crying for help have gone viral. Family members took Harpreet to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle to the government hospital in sector 16. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

It is pertinent to mention that the Punjab Vigilance Bureau had registered a case against Malwinder Singh Sidhu, then Assistant Inspector General of the Human Rights Cell, Punjab Police, in November 2023, for exploiting his position, committing fraud, blackmail, extortion, and bribery from government employees.
