Punjab Police Arrests Jem-Linked 3 Persons In Case Of Murder Of Mohali Cab Driver Latest News: In a major breakthrough, Sasnagar police busted a terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), apprehending three persons from J&K in the abduction & murder of a cab driver. The police have recovered a weapon & vehicle from their possession.
Anil Kumar, a cab driver and a resident of Nayagaon, Mohali, was abducted and shot dead following an altercation; the accused arrested have confessed to the crime.
A case was promptly registered after his vehicle was allegedly snatched by unidentified assailants.
Preliminary investigation reveals that three persons from Jammu & Kashmir had hired the cab from Kharar. Soon after, the driver’s mobile phones were found switched off, raising suspicion, police said.
“Considering the grave and sensitive nature of the matter, multiple police teams were constituted, and acting with speed and precision, all three accused were apprehended. The snatched vehicle and the 32 bore pistol used in the crime have been recovered,” the police added in a statement.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to having fatally shot the driver after an altercation and later disposing of the body in the Mohali area.

The arrested accused has been identified as Sahil Bashir, son of Bashir Ahmad. The second arrested accused is identified as Munish Singh alias Ansh, son of Shamsher Singh, and the third one is identified as Aijaz Ahmad alias Wasim, son of Ghulam Mohammad (All residents of Jammu & Kashmir).
According to the police, the accused Sahil Bashir is a wanted individual in a UAPA and Arms Act case registered at PS Qalamabad, Handwara, J&K. His brother Aijaz Ahmad had earlier been arrested with a cache of weapons and materials linked to JeM. Both are identified as Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of JeM, police added.
Punjab Police said that it remains steadfast in its commitment to maintain peace and security in the state. “Dedicated teams are continuing investigation to unearth the entire network and ensure that no such anti-national activity finds space on Punjab’s soil,” the statement added.
