Punjab Government Extends Rs 4,000 Monthly Aid to Support Children from Weaker Sections and Orphans: Chandigarh: The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of children by providing Rs 4,000 per month financial assistance to children from economically weaker families and orphans. The initiative falls under the Sponsorship Scheme of the Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development.

Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur disclosed that so far, 5,475 children have benefitted from this support across the state. She explained that the scheme aims to extend a safety net to families that are unable to provide adequate care to their children due to financial hardships, as well as to orphans being raised by relatives.

“This monthly assistance continues until the child turns 18,” Dr. Kaur said, adding that the scheme is designed not just as financial relief but as a step towards ensuring that children receive proper education, healthcare, and opportunities for growth.

The Minister further emphasized that the program embodies the State Government’s vision of holistic child development. “Our effort is to empower these children to become educated, confident, and self-reliant citizens who can actively contribute to Punjab’s progress,” she remarked.

Officials highlighted that the CM Mann-led Punjab Government has consistently prioritized welfare programs that directly benefit vulnerable groups. Through this initiative, children who might otherwise be deprived of opportunities are being given the tools to pursue a dignified life and a brighter future.
