Congress Calls All-Party Meeting “Meaningless”, Says “The Big Discussion Has to Be on China”
Congress Calls All-Party Meeting “Meaningless”, Suggets discussion has to be on China: An all-party meeting is scheduled to be held on July 19 ahead of the upcoming Parliament session. However, the Congress has termed the meeting a mere “formality,” questioning its relevance and effectiveness.
Congress MP Jairam Ramesh, speaking to ANI, stated, “The all-party meeting is a formality. Nothing happens in these meetings. Mr. Rajnath Singh and the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs attend. Mr. JP Nadda comes in his capacity as the Leader of the Rajya Sabha.”
He alleged that key decision-makers, such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, do not attend these meetings, which renders the discussions ineffective.
“We have a fairly meaningless discussion for an hour and a half. We all have tea and then disperse because the people who actually decide the agenda—the Prime Minister and the Home Minister—are not present. So the all-party meeting is just a formality we go through. I'm not very hopeful,” Ramesh said.
He emphasized that the Congress will raise all significant issues in Parliament, particularly the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and the ongoing tensions with China.
“The Congress party is very insistent that there must be a discussion on what happened in Pahalgam—why it happened, how it happened, and why the terrorists have not been brought to justice even now. We will also demand clarity on the reported halt of Operation Sindoor,” Ramesh stated.
He added that the Congress will also seek a discussion on any trade agreement with the United States, expected around the time of the session. “But most importantly,” he stressed, “the big discussion has to be on China.”
